Course booking and facilitated Project Mobilisation options

It doesn’t take much to realise that more formal project management methods are just not working and don’t work in isolation! Project failure statistics have remained constantly poor since they were first introduced. Whilst we fully support any method that instils elements of PM discipline and rigour we do know that just sitting in classrooms preparing for and taking exams is not the solution.

Goal Directed Project Management (GDPM) is not new and has been used extensively in pocket organisations across the world since the early 80’s. We have applied the principles with success and internally trained more than 1300 in this approach whilst working for British Telecom; we decided to leave BT and create our own company so that we can share our passion, skills and expertise to help other organisations apply the approach. We’ve been there done it, doing it and still learning every day!

Best practice for knowledge share and onward application is by doing not by being told! Our training workshops will - in just 2 days - enable delegates to get straight back into the workplace and apply the learning to projects with increased confidence and success and without the additional cost of expensive manuals or software. All delegates will receive a free course workbook for the 2-day options for use during the course and thereafter. Free information handouts are supplied for the 1-day options.

We have a number of Fast Forward training and facilitation options which are all based on Goal Directed Project Management (GDPM) principles. All options are delivered by experienced GDPM specialists. Click the title of each option to jump down to view the description.

Click here to download course description [pdf 120kb]

Overview

This highly interactive and practical 2-day training workshop uses the concepts of Goal Directed Project Management (GDPM) to focus on the key principles that increase the chances of project success. The delivery method does not involve extensive lecturing or examinations and is suitable for the project novice or project professional. Our experience has shown us that embedding learning is about doing rather than being told, enabling rapid application and reinforcement of learning. Our training workshops replicate real life projects and team creation where strangers are brought together to plan and achieve a common goal.

Delegates gain experience through practical use of the simple techniques and templates on simulated projects in a safe workshop environment - which means that delegates can be effective immediately they return to their normal business environment.

Practical project examples teach the teams how to develop and agree a clear project scope, the end Goal, a series of Objectives, development of a high-level Milestone Plan, completion of a Responsibility Matrix, Risk and Stakeholder Management and effective project controls. A review session is held after every main session.

The GDPM approach complements other formal project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, APM, AGILE, PMI and your company’s own methodology. But unlike many academic courses, this workshop provides delegates with practical experience of the light-touch, non-bureaucratic tools and templates which they can take back and immediately use in their workplace.

Audience

Primarily aimed at Project and Programme Managers, Project Team members or Project Support Office (PSO) people, this workshop can equally be used as a practical introduction to project management for people with limited or no experience of managing projects or improving the effectiveness of projects being managed by the more experienced project managers and their teams.

Overview

Project management

Would you like to learn about the Goal Directed Project Management based approach and have a project of your choice launched at the same time?

This highly interactive and practical 2-day project launch workshop (sometimes called mobilisation) uses the concepts of Goal Directed Project Management (GDPM) to focus on the key principles that increase the chances of project success without the need for extensive lecturing or examinations. Our experience has shown us that embedding learning is about doing rather than being told - using real life projects and teams enables rapid application and reinforcement of the GDPM principles.

Delegates gain experience through practical use of the tools, techniques and Fast Forward templates on a simulated project in a safe environment on Day 1. On Day 2 this workshop will effectively set up and launch a live project of your choice through the development of a first draft project scope, end goal, objectives and high-level milestone plan. Team members will receive pre and post workshop virtual support (email / telephone) for their project.

Practical project examples teach the teams how to develop and agree a clear project scope, the end Goal, a series of Objectives, development of a Milestone Plan, completion of a Responsibility Matrix, Risk and Stakeholder Management and effective project controls. A review is held after every main session. Day 1 focuses on practice, Day 2 will focus on real application – the initiation and planning of the project teams live project applying the learning from Day 1 to produce a first draft project scope, goal, objectives and high-level milestone plan for their project and to agree the next steps and actions.

The GDPM approach is complementary to other project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, APM, Agile, PMI and your company’s own methodology. But unlike many academic courses, this workshop provides delegates with practical experience of the light-touch, non-bureaucratic tools and templates which they can take back to the workplace and continue to use on their project.

Audience

Primarily aimed at the Project Team – including Programme & Project Manager, the core Project Team members, Project Support Office (PSO) people and other key stakeholders. Because GDPM uses simple language, templates and tools & techniques it is also a practical introduction to project management for people with limited or no experience of managing projects or to improve the effectiveness of projects being managed by the more experienced project managers and their teams.

The most effective workshop delegate numbers are between 10-16 team members.

This Project Launch workshop will enable you to:

Practice - Day 1

Project Launch and mobilisation - Day 2

Day 2 is all about applying the GDPM approach to your own project. At the end of the day you will have:

And finally...

post-it notes
